Didier de Courten - One of The Best Restaurants in Switzerland


Didier de Courten, one of the best restaurants in Switzerland Since Didier de Courten made it into the top league about two years ago and became chef of the year 2006, he doesn't find the time for leisure anymore. It isn't surprising that his restaurant, which counts as one of the top restaurants in Switzerland is booked solid for months ahead.

Guests from far away travel to the town of Sierre in the Canton of Valais-Wallis to enjoy his 19-points gourmet food cuisine. And they most certainly will not leave disappointed, in contrary, they will return again and again. There are of course many other excellent restaurants in Switzerland to discover.

Owner and Chef Didier de Courten and his brigade are not in spite of lasting success neither tired nor are they under stress. In contrary, the innovative and excellent cuisine has gained in subtlety and precision.

You will be thrilled from the veal tartar presented in cubes on top of Rucola blossoms with hazelnut and an emulsion of grated Parmesan cheese. You may also enjoy with a fresh "amuse-bouche" the delicious frog thighs with lemons, guacamole and eggplant.

Shortly after, we were served an ice bowl with delicate egg sponge flan. Every plate testifies from the creativity and control, like for example the melting "Foie-grasTerrine" which was accompanied from cherries in verbena.


Exceptionally good tasting where the first-class lobster on Venthône-safran and the langoustine with sea spider, peas and mint. Both dishes were true fireworks for palate and eye, because the Chef also knows the art of beautiful food decorating.

From the best of the sea was continued the best from the mountains. The spring deer filet from Austria with fir points and thyme was incredible. It was very tasty, tender and perfumed delicately. It just shows that the delightful cuisine is simple but also modern.


Creative desserts at the Didier de Courten restaurant By the way, we enjoyed an exceptional good bottle of Chardonnay wine from the Vaud region. One bottle had to do it as we had to drive our car back home, even so we live only a half hour from Sierre

After we had the interesting cheese plate (my favorite is Gruyere) with excellent local discoveries, they continued with deserts. We had a small vacherin glace with pistachios, cherries and mangos and of course the best café imaginable made the Swiss way.

The restaurant Didier de Courten is located in the small town of Sierre, only steps from the train station. The Sierre region is surrounded by vineyards and higher up by the Alpine summits is the cradle of the resort of Crans-Montana Switzerland.

A wide range of activities are organized all year round, from golf and excursions during the summer to winter sports during the winter season. The region with its mild climate in the Canton of Valais-Wallis also possesses a wealth of history and heritage characterized by a long tradition of wine growing.

The restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays. It is also closed two weeks at the end of June/Beginning of July and unfortunately two weeks during Christmas/New Year. Expect to spend between 155.- and 200.- Swiss Francs depending on your choice of dishes.

The Hotel Terminus where the restaurant is situated also belongs to Didier de Courten and is despite its excellence in service, still only 4-star rated.

However, it could be an alternative to staying in Crans-Montana, should the resort of Crans-Montana be booked solid.

The hotel is small, only 40 rooms and suites. A single room is from 120.-, a double room from 190.-, a junior suite from 350.- and a suite from 410.- Swiss Francs.
