Grand Hotel Bellevue - Avant-Garde Design and True Architectural Luxury

the Grand Hotel Bellevue in Gstaad Switzerland If we think of Gstaad, pictures appear before our eyes. From snowy mountains above the Grand Hotel Bellevue, in fur dressed celebrities and Aprés-Ski bunnies by which the champagne normally flows in streams.

However, the village in the Bernese Oberland is far more than a fashionable ski-mecca. Especially in the summer when the tourist stream slows down, Gstaad unfolds its special charm. This also appreciates the Bellevue hotel which receives its guests all year around and presents itself as one of the best Swiss hotels.

Having lunch at the Grand Hotel Bellevue The owner Thomas Straumann has fulfilled his dream of having his own dream hotel. His "Bellevue" is the rebel under the noble Gstaad hotels. While the local competition lures with ambience and interior equipment in "Chalet style", the Bellevue has freed itself with big consequences of the folkloric Swiss Alps romanticism and surprises with avant-garde design, small high-tech miracles and that true architectural luxury called - - space.

In spite of high design, modern architecture is not missing and the SPA offers far-eastern wellness and relaxation at the highest level. Additionally, a not expected good experience in the kitchen and cellar as well as an unobtrusively efficient service.

The beautiful suites at the Grand Hotel Bellevue in Gstaad This bijoux, which belongs to the best Swiss Hotels, lies in the midst of an idyllic 18,000 square meter park and spoils the senses of everybody who have ever been here.

The restaurant "Prado" is decorated with sixteen GaultMillau points. Right beside it, the "Brasserie" Coelho" shows its proud attained fourteen GaultMillau points.

You will not get less spoiled in the Bellevue SPA. During the hot summer season, the "SPA & Romance" lures with incredible offers from mid July to the end of August to refresh body and mind.

Spa-Infrastructure

The Grand Hotel Bellevue has a 2,500 square meter Spa formed in Japanese simplicity. On this total area are an indoor swimming pool with a spectacular sauna world and a fitness room. Of course, to a Spa belongs also a personal trainer for gymnastics and relaxation lessons. In addition, there are numerous treatment rooms for body and beauty care.

Body Treatments

Like in all the luxury hotels these days, the Grand Hotel Bellevue also offers classical and far eastern massages as well as Shiatsu and Reiki. A special experience in case you never had it before is the "Breuss" massage done on your spine and the sound bowls massage. Everywhere well known is Lomi Lomi Nui, LaStone therapy, lymphatic drainage, foot-reflex-zones massage and Osteopathy.

Beauty Applications

Also not new anymore are the beauty applications offered at the Grand Hotel Bellevue. Included are the classical and modern cosmetic, relaxing baths, peelings, packings, compresses and hand as well as foot care.

Location & Surrounding

The location of the hotel is in the village of Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland. Bern, the capital of Switzerland is less than one hour away. The city of Lausanne Switzerland located on the Swiss Riviera is even closer, reason enough for many from the Lake Geneva region to come for the weekends.

The hotel lies in a big park with old trees at the entrance of the village. The Village centre with all its bars is only steps away. It is a relaxing location where Elisabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and David Niven were regularly playing cards with the locals back in the 60´s and 70´s.

Activities, Entertainment and Attractions nearby

The hotel offers various activities and entertainment all year around. You may want to go to the centre and discover the cosy village atmosphere who offers a variety of chic shopping and top international and regional events.

The 31st International Hot air balloon week takes place from January 24 to February 2, 2009. Gstaad also holds the annual ATP Swiss Open at the end of July / Beginning of August and the Polo Gold Cup at the end of August. Also of interests are the magical classical music events in the wintertime.

Guest Rooms & Suites at the Grand Hotel Bellevue

The hotel provides 52 comfortably furnished rooms. It feels like as if you were living at home. You are pampered with room service around the clock. Even when you are relaxing in the Jacuzzi, you can admire the splendour of the sky through the glass dome. The suites are divided into a living-, dining-, and sleeping area with dressing room.

Dining

Brasserie Coelho
You will feel very comfortable when dining in the Coelho. In the summer, you are served on the big terrace. This also brings the locals in a holiday mood, which come here regularly with pleasure.

The Tom Kha Gai, a red Penang curry with beef or Geang Keow Wan, a green curry with Thai basilica and Thai peas are best-seller from the menu card. If you prefer fish, we recommend the Plah Pha Sod perch dish with wok vegetables and than served in a bamboo cork.

Restaurant Prado
The restaurant Prado looks warmer and more generous at its new location in the mild candle light. However, Bellevue owner Mr. Straumann changed his gourmet chef just recently. The French chef Richard Mebkhout replaced Mathias Droz. It will show what he is up to at the latest this coming winter season. We are curious!

Bellevue Bar
This light and comfortably furnished bar is a venue for bon vivants. It serves perfectly for roasted Amici coffee or tea in the afternoon after skiing or walking around town. Besides, their homemade patisserie tastes excellent.

Club 911
If you enjoy a drink and dance to exhilarating rhythms head downstairs to the club 911. It is a good place to meet for interesting conversations and the bar crew offers some very cool cocktails to please you.

What I find good

There are two things you will notice immediately when lodging at the Grand Hotel Bellevue. First, the inside architecture differs very clearly from the short-lived mainstream aesthetic and the déjà-vue coolness of many design hotels.

And second, the Spa belongs to the most beautiful in the Alps. The hotel also employs the best therapists.

What I don’t find good

For a five star hotel, one would expect bathrooms with separate toilettes.
