How to get to Leysin Switzerland

By Air
The air services to Geneva are excellent, especially from the UK. Most airlines and Swiss International airlines offer competitive rates from almost anywhere to Geneva or Zurich International airports. Of course, Geneva International airport is closer to the resort of Leysin.

By car
From Geneva, the motorway A9 is excellent, bypassing Lausanne and Montreux, with superb views of Lake Geneva across to France. Exit the motorway at Aigle and follow the mountain road for around 18 kilometers up to Leysin.

The distance from Geneva International airport is 125 kms, which takes you around 1hr 30 minutes. All roads are kept clear in winter, though in snow and ice conditions 4-wheel drive or chains are reasonably essential (and in some conditions compulsory) on the mountain roads.

Motorway restaurants, including the ubiquitous Mövenpick chain, are well worth using in Switzerland. They are well-equipped with shops, mini-markets, clean toilets and in many cases, Wi-Fi (either free or for a nominal charge). There are three large supermarket complexes on the route from Geneva. The Mövenpick restaurants located on the motorways are quite expensive in compare to other restaurants and for safety reasons, they won’t serve any alcohol.

By train
Leysin Switzerland has excellent rail connections from Geneva International airport starting from 0630 in the morning via Aigle. The service between Aigle and Leysin is in a classic mountain cog railway which functions in most weather conditions. The cog train, which leaves every hour stops at three stations in Leysin and takes approximately 35 minutes. The total journey time is around 1hr 50 minutes.

In Leysin, there are 4 stops within the village offering connections to a free shuttle bus, which runs through the village every hour. There are also three taxi services with minibus, for use outside the shuttle bus hours, from any Leysin station. A taxi from Aigle to Leysin is quite expensive (around SFr 75).
