High-End Travel Switzerland's Review

The Palace Hotel Gstaad is where the celebrated come to be at rest. It has been like that since it opened in 1913 and was maybe a bit responsible for putting Gstaad on the map. Back in the early 1920's, French, Austro-Hungarian and Russian aristocrats would take whole floors for both the winter and summer seasons. They were not just accommodating themselves but their servants as well. Maybe through such long experience, the Palace Hotel Gstaad somehow manages to both reek of exclusivity and wealth while dodging gaudy ostentation. The public rooms are more on rustic Alpine wood paneling rather than on marble and gilding. The Gstaad Palace is not the most opulent hotel in the world, and it should stay that way says general manager Andrea Scherz. They want people to remember that they are on vacation up in the mountains - but for some not the cheapest one. Over the years many Celebrities and wealthy people have vacationed at the Palace. Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Maurice Chevalier played here in the fifties and sixties and than suddenly, more and more important names just kept coming. The times are gone when Richard Burton and David Niven used to play cards with the locals in the town centre. However, many more Famous People and the High-End Society visit the Palace Hotel Gstaad regularly. Well-known people like Robbie Williams - Michael Jackson - Roman Polanski - Liza Minnelli - Elisabeth Taylor - Roger Moore - European Royalty, American Billionaires and Russian Oligarchs appear every winter. So is it only for the wealthy and famous? Not at all, at $ 535 for during the summer or $ 620 during the winter for a double room, it is a good deal. One tip, during the Christmas Holiday season, it is almost impossible to book a room. I see you there!
