Swiss Legend Watches – Discover The World of Prestige Swiss Watches
In the twenties of the last century, a former Swiss dental manufacturer traveled to India. During his stay there, he learned the polo game and returned home with a brilliant idea for a newly-styled watch. And so begins the story of a watch model that belongs without a doubt to the illustrious circle of Swiss legend watches. His name was César de Trey, who in 1927 changed from dental technology to the Swiss watch industry. While in India, he listend carefully about all the complains of the British colonial rulers. Apparently the glasses of their time pieces constantly broke in the battle of the rough polo games. Not to mention the mechanism inside the watch that often failed through the strong shocks.
Whether it was one of the permanent victims, who expressed the desire for a shock resisting watch, or whether he himself discovered it, is not known today. In any case, the happy inspired traveled back to Switzerland and worked with the right professionals on a new watch design. And so in 1931, the first watch with an ingenious turning mechanism came on the market. The Reverso from 1936 by Jaeger-LeCoultre is now a classic, one of those Swiss legend watches that have stood the test of time. Long have we arrived to the age of break-proof glasses and shock-proof time mechanisms. Today, Jaeger-LeCoultre provides an exceptional collection of Swiss luxury watches. The first wrist watches came on the market at the beginning of the 20´s and irrevocably replaced the pocket watch. To this day, billions of Swiss watches as well as foreign watch brands in millions of different models were sold worldwide. However, almost all watches in the high-end market are Swiss mechanical watches. Most of them were not noticed that much and just rode along the appropriate fashion wave. Some were in demand only a season or a few years and then were forgotten. But a few of the best Swiss watches stand out from the history of the wristwatch. They became, as the Reverso or the Master Grand Tourbillon, the true Swiss legend watches.
Another legendary watch has especially helped the technical perfection of immortality. Hans Wilsdorf, a German-born was already in the watch business since 1900 when he worked together with the "Swiss watch manufacturer Aegler" in the town of Biel-Bienne (today Rolex). Since the beginning with the newly founded Rolex company, Wilsdorf accurately believed on the breakthrough of the wristwatch. He then managed a technical innovation of unprecedented scale – the first waterproof watch.Than on October 7th 1927, the world astonished about a young office worker named Mercedes Gleitze. In a little over ten hours, she swam through the English channel. On her wrist she wore an Oyster Rolex Watch, whose mechanism was the first embedded in an airtight case with a screwed crown. The watch survived crossing the canal without damage. On that day the reputation of the legendary resilience was born, which is inherent to a real Rolex. The brand with the crown had a cash cow with the Oyster model in their product cabinet. The "Oyster" models were sold over decades with almost the same design and not just a few of them now enjoy cult status and Rolex models count as Swiss legend watches. Even today, these vintage Swiss watches are in great demand. In the spring of 1969, Breitling of Grenchen and its competitor Heuer & Co. in Brügg near Biel joined for the development of a chronograph. At that time, a chronograph and the automatic winding connecting with each other was a technical challenge and also a financial risk. About at the same time, Zenith of the small town of Le Locle also worked on the same principe in a quiet little room. The race for the honor to be the builder of the first automatic chronograph was in progress. Zenith finally managed with a slim lead with the El Primero watch, the world´s most precise series-produced movement and the only one to beat at 10 vibrations per second. Almost at the same time Breitling with Kaliber 11 Chronomatic and Heuer with Monaco presented their models to the public. To the true Swiss legend watches belongs Breitling. This watch manufacturer is known worldwide for its excellent and beautifully styled pilot watches like the Breitling Navitimer, the Breitling Emergency, the Breitling Monbrillant 1903 and the latest, the Chronomat Evolution. Also Tag & Heuer made a name through its consistent use for the timing in professional sports. Some of the Heuer classics are Targa Florio and Monza Calibre 36 Chronometer Chronograph as well as Monaco Steve McQueen Edition. If you ask for connoisseurs of the watch industry´s leading producers, you always hear the name Patek Philippe. In any case, watch lovers and collectors go into raptures when they hear of the 1835 founded brand of Geneva Switzerland. Today, Patek Philippe is part of the history of the true Swiss legend watches. The most expensive wrist watches are still the Patek Philippe Platinum World Time and Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon. From the Geneva factory come many of the most complicated pocket- and wrist watches that were ever built. All the works of Patek Philippe fall under the category of Prestige Swiss Watches. In the middle of the sixties, the NASA chose the Omega Speedmaster as the official chronograph for its space ventures. The Speedmaster Professional with the dark dial was also on the wrists of the astronauts when they landed on the moon on July 21th 1969. With this event, the Omega Chronograph as Moon Watch also entered into the history of watches. At the beginning of the nineties, the Audemars Piguet timepieces came to the merit for the Swiss watch industry. The company heralded the blessing renaissance of the mechanical watch. Audemars Piguet timepieces are just so beautiful and the Royal Oak could certainly qualify as one of the top 10 Swiss watches. In any case, Audemars Piquet watches are regarded by many as beautiful Swiss legend watches. Probably the next watch, that will write history is the time machine Opus 3, which was built last year by Vianney Halter of Ste-Croix in the Jura region, Switzerland. With this watch, a whole new way to read the time was invented. In six round windows of different colors appear massive housing numbers, which show the hours, minutes and date. Inside on a shaft rotate ten discs with a total of 47 dials. They turn with different speeds and at different levels so that they appear at a certain date in correct order into the portholes. I am sure that no watch wearer will get bored with this new design. Every 60 seconds, an opposite turning countdown announces – 56, 57, 58, 59 -, which rattles in the upper window and tells you the minute change. Truly a brilliant, futuristic timepiece that makes confident that more exciting moments are to follow in the Swiss watch industry.
