Villars Switzerland – A Family Friendly Ski Resort
Villars Switzerland is very popular by the locals and foreigners living around Lake Geneva. Its close proximity to Geneva and Lausanne make it easily accessible. Reason enough, why this holiday destination offers a number of exclusive private Swiss schools. Like Leysin, Villars sits on a sunny plateau just above the Rhone Valley. It is a relaxed ski resort offering great beginner terrain and a wonderful family-friendly atmosphere. It was long known as a health resort since the turn of the twentieth century. Today it offers a peaceful base, with modern facilities and magnificent scenery for a summer as well as a winter holiday.
The Family Resort of Villars Switzerland
Villars Switzerland is indeed one of the best resorts in the Alps for families with many children’s facilities and activities. Nevertheless, this relaxing village offers mostly low-key entertainment.
That means that the nights are fairly quiet despite some good restaurants and bars as well as a couple of clubs. Nevertheless, Villars-sur-Ollon has a reputation for quality and good service. In fact, it has everything that it even attracts celebrities from the Lake Geneva area. By the way, Ollon is the village below Villars and therefore is called "Villars-sur-Ollon" or Villars above Ollon.
Skiing in Villars Switzerland
Villars itself is an ideal beginners resort, with 125km of perfectly groomed pistes. Sitting at a height of 1,300m and south-facing position of the slopes sometimes result in a thin and wet snow cover. However, the resort has invested a lot in snowmaking facilities to compensate for it.

Of the 67 trails, over half are rated as easy. The nursery slopes are located at village level and the two ski schools offer expert tuition. From the village, a mountain railway ascends to Bretaye at 1,800m, treating skiers to a wonderfully scenic 20-minute trip, and from there a series of lifts radiate in all directions. The terrain is mostly for beginners and intermediate skiers. However, there are some beautiful runs for intermediate skiers through trees back down to the village. From the village, a gondola leads up to the Roc, from where there are more challenging trails, including several decent black runs for expert skiers. The resort of Villars Switzerland shares its ski area with the neighbouring town of Les Diablerets. The ski area rises up to a glacier at 3,200 m, offering more snow-sure slopes, and a good mix of terrain for all levels. For good skiers, Villars offers a limited amount of trails, but plenty of off-piste skiing. Like skiers, snowboarders will also find lots of easy terrain. However, most experienced riders tend to explore challenging off-piste or use the snow-park. Be careful when doing off-piste skiing, because every year people are caught in avalanches that they trigger mostly themselves.
