Zug Switzerland - The Tax Paradise
Zug Switzerland, the beautiful small old town of only 23,400 inhabitants at the north end of an idyllic lake is above all famous for three things: very low taxes, cherry schnapps (a type of liquor) and the cherry cake. The town was founded 1242 through the "Counts von Kyburg". The Kyburg City is characterized by its distinctive buildings. Most houses and fountains in the Old City are still well preserved and date back to the late Gothic period. The 52 m (86 ft) high Zytturm (tower clock) stands at the "Kolinplatz" and is the most famous landmark in the historic centre.
On the east side of the town, you see the four round towers and rests of the foundation of the former fortress. The Late-Gothic city hall in the fish market had an open covered market on the first floor. In the Gothic council hall, you can admire some precious piece works from 1507. Very nice is also the Renaissance main entrance built in 1607 and the small council hall in 1726. Walking along the lake promenade, you have a marvelous look at Mount Pilatus, Mount Rigi and the Bernese Alps with Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The sundown over Lake Zug is one of the most beautiful you will ever see, not just in Switzerland. The "Landsgemeindeplatz" is the centre at the lake where every Tuesday and Saturday the market takes place.
The Canton of Zug is also well known for its central location, high quality of living, International outlook and of course as a tax paradise. The town which is close to the economic centre of Zurich has become a dynamic business location. The Canton provides the lowest individual and corporate taxation rates within Switzerland.
No wonder that more than 22,000 Swiss and Foreign companies have their seat in Zug Switzerland. The town provides about as many workplaces (23,000) as there are inhabitants living. It attracts many renowned companies working in raw materials, trading, high-technology and financial services. But because of its size, it is small-town life and the region is wealthy, even by Swiss standards because it is a tax paradise. Something that to the European Union has been a thorn in the eye for a long time.

St. Oswald's Church
The Late-Gothic church Saint Oswald is the work of Hans Felder who laid the foundation stones on 18th May 1478. The single nave church was completed in about five years. Later it was extended to a three-nave basilica in the middle of the 16th-century. The choir stalls, designed by Ulrich Rosenstein from Lachen are the only original items from the first church and are dating back to 1484.

Clock Tower
The Clock Tower was built by master builder Hans Felder from Bavaria, who also built the church of St. Oswald. The tower is 52 m (160 ft) high and the lower part was constructed simply as a passage-way through the town wall. The tower has a clock since 1480, but later a larger one was made in 1574. Of particular interest is this astronomical clock, which is very similar to the clock tower in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The hands show the sun, moon, arrow and S indicate the months, the phases of the moon, the days of the week and the leap years. It is worth just to stand in front of the clock for awhile and wait until all the mechanical linkages are moving.

There are still these miraculous institutions who have earned alone with its ambience, the incredible equipment, the excellent choice of dishes, cutlery and glasses. The Rathauskeller belongs to them and earns attention because it can hold the level since a small eternity. However, what we don't like too much, although they pay attention to the smallest details, is that the menu card that has not changed in the past years. It may be all right for first-time customers but maybe boring for repeat clients.
Krone Sihlbrugg 4 8816 Sihlbrugg-Hirzel Tel: 044 729 83 33
For thirteen generations own the Huber family the mighty crown (Krone means crown) in Sihlbrugg. It is a nice restaurant, also inside, and although many city natives of Zurich belong to the regular guests, the service has preserved a friendliness that today one finds rarely in the cosmopolitan city of Zurich. The cuisine has an exotic atmosphere, but you don't have to renounce to typical classic food like calf's meat loaf, or an excellent Viennese Schnitzel, or a the famous trouts. The restaurant Krone is located only 6 km (4 miles) from the town of Zug.
Zum Kaiser Franz im Rössl Vorstadt 8 Tel: 041 710 96 36 We liked the appetizer which tasted quite good. Less persuasive was the butter fish carpaccio which was a bit tasteless. Way better were the tuna tartar and the apple balm. Excellent tasted the roasted duck's liver on a brioche which was accompanied by shallots. The Austrian wines - a green Veltliner of Kurt Angerer (2002) and a Cuvée Aristos from the Burgenland (2003) were convincing.
Aegerihof Zugerbergstr. 1 6314 Unterägeri Tel: 041 750 11 08 When entering you notice immediately the friendly greeting and later the waiting period for the drinks was very short. The rich choice of the menu card was optimal and excellent the quality of the food. All ingredients were fresh and the restaurant elegant with a pleasant ambience.
