• In addition, the existing direct connection from Bologna will be extended to Florence.
• From March to October, the existing direct train from Genova will even run from Livorno further in the south.

Arrival from Germany
• For the first time, there will be direct ICE trains, e.g. from Berlin or Hamburg to Brig:
1x from Dortmund (departing 05:37 via Köln, FFM Airport Mannheim Karlsruhe Freiburg to Visp and arriving to Brig at 13:11)

Titlis, one of Switzerland’s best-known excursion mountains, is getting an exciting new addition

New architectural height: the “Titlis Tower”
Another highlight is expected to open in early summer 2026: the new “Titlis Tower”. The renowned Basel-based architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron is currently transforming the striking, iconic 1980s steel structure at the summit station into a modern, cross-shaped landmark at over 3,000 metres above sea level. Two glazed steel structures will be integrated into the existing building and, from the end of May 2026, will house a restaurant, a bar and exhibition spaces. Guests will reach the “Titlis Tower” from the mountain station either through the underground “Rock Passage” or above ground across the glacier. From the entrance hall, a lift will take them directly up to the new viewing terrace with breathtaking views of the glacier and the Alps.

With the new “Titlis Tower”, the mountain will not only be easier to reach but will boast another spectacular tourist attraction.

Swiss public transport with price adjustments in 2026

Travel experts and tour operators who design travel packages and offer Swiss public transport tickets will be interested to hear the latest about the upcoming price updates for the Swiss Travel Pass (Flex) and the Swiss Half Fare Card.

The prices for the Swiss Travel Pass (Flex) and the Swiss Half Fare Card will be adjusted as of 01 January 2026.

The Swiss Travel Pass (Flex) with a starting validity date in 2026 will see a price increase of 5% on average. The price adjustments are due to the growing demand for Swiss public transport services from international visitors and reflect Switzerland’s ever-growing reputation as a highly desirable travel destination.

The price for the Swiss Half Fare Card will increase from currently CHF 120 to CHF 150. The new price point aligns it with the Swiss tariff system and better reflects that of the Half Fare Card.

Important side note: prices for products from the “Direct National Transport” range, such as day passes and point-to-point tickets, remain unchanged. However, local price adjustments by fare networks or individual transport companies are possible.

Thank you for taking note of the upcoming changes and for informing your valued customers ahead of time about the price increases to avoid any misunderstandings.

SGV – a pioneer in passenger shipping for sustainable mobility

The Lake Lucerne Navigation Company (SGV AG) has, for the first time, used solar fuel from Synhelion. The steamboat Gallia was symbolically refuelled with solar diesel from Synhelion’s industrial plant DAWN – a milestone for more sustainable mobility on water.

The over 110-year-old steamer was ceremonially refuelled with the first barrel of solar diesel, produced at Synhelion’s DAWN plant in Jülich, Germany. Operational since summer 2024, the facility manufactures sustainable synthetic fuels on an industrial scale. Synhelion’s solar fuel is fully compatible with conventional combustion engines. With this initiative, SGV becomes the first navigation company in the world to utilise Synhelion’s solar fuel. The symbolic first fuelling took place during the launch of SGV’s new premium offering, Legends of Lake Lucerne.

Renewable fuels as a key to sustainable mobility
By fuelling the Gallia, Synhelion demonstrates that its solar fuels are ready for real-world application. They enable near carbon-neutral mobility – without requiring modifications to existing engines or infrastructure.

Sustainability is a key priority
SGV has already signed a five-year purchase agreement with Synhelion and plans to use solar fuel on a regular basis in the future. As a pioneering customer, SGV plays a vital role in scaling Synhelion’s technology. “Sustainability is a key priority for us. Synhelion’s solar fuel provides a tangible solution for reducing CO₂ emissions,” says Stefan Schulthess, CEO of SGV.

Synhelion – turning sunlight into fuel
Synhelion produces renewable solar fuels with the aim of defossilising the transport sector. The cleantech company has developed a scalable technology that uses solar energy to manufacture synthetic fuels. These solar fuels are almost CO₂-neutral and fully compatible with today’s global fuel infrastructure and existing engines. Since launching its industrial plant DAWN in 2024, Synhelion has been producing solar kerosene, solar diesel and solar petrol, supplying them to a growing customer base. Backed by international partners from various industries and transport sectors, Synhelion is working to replace fossil fuels with renewable solar alternatives.

4 Questions for the CEO of Swiss Travel System AG, Sara Roloff

Since the start of 2025, Sara Roloff has been at the helm of Swiss Travel System AG. Today, the CEO answers four of our quick-fire questions.

When did your passion for train travel begin?
As a teenager, I travelled across Europe by train. Boundless freedom – with just one ticket! That’s the same feeling we aim to evoke among our guests visiting Switzerland with the Swiss Travel Pass. No matter whether they’re 17 or 70, still in school or long since retired. With the Swiss Travel Pass, they can travel throughout Switzerland for up to 15 days – not only by train, but also by bus and boat. It genuinely delights me to see how thrilled our international guests are with Swiss public transport.

How important is public transport for Switzerland?
Nowhere else do people travel more kilometres by public transport than in Switzerland. And rightly so – trains, buses and boats take you to virtually every place in the country: comfortably, quickly and sustainably. Our international visitors, of course, appreciate this too. I believe that public transport in Switzerland will continue to grow in importance in the future – and that goes especially for our flagship product, the Swiss Travel Pass. Swiss public transport recently set a new sales record for a single month. In May 2025, we celebrated the highest sales of Swiss Travel Passes and Half Fare Cards across all our markets in history. I’d like to congratulate all our distribution partners on this incredible achievement.

What does travel – and train travel in particular – mean to you?
First off: It never fails to amaze me how multifaceted Switzerland is. Even in summer, the snow-capped mountains are just a train ride away. The same goes for Switzerland’s sunny south. That’s one of the advantages of being in a smaller country.

For me, train travel represents boundless freedom and the opportunity to gain a unique insight into other cultures. It offers relaxation and inspiration at the same time. For our international visitors, public transport is part of the holiday experience. It allows them to immerse themselves in their surroundings and savour every moment. But I can also be productive while on the train, which saves me a lot of valuable time. No other form of mobility can offer that.

Where do your best ideas come to you?
Like travelling, running makes me feel great. It’s the perfect way to clear my head. I’m an avid marathon runner – hence I spend a lot of time training. And while running, I can sort through ideas and brainstorm with myself.

Do you have a question for our CEO? Email us at trade@travelswitzerland.com and we might feature your question in a future newsletter.
